Hobbit fans would love this in-flight safety instruction video by Air New Zealand! It is a very creative flight safety video with hobbits and elves as flight attendants and crew, and this video is called The Unexpected Briefing. Unlike any boring in-flight safety videos that you may have watched, this video can get you glued and actually listening to all the flight safety instructions!
This video was produced way ahead of the expected release of the first movie of The Hobbit trilogy. The planned movie names and release dates are:
- The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey (December 14, 2012)
- The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug (December 13, 2013)
- The Hobbit: There and Back Again (July 18, 2014)
At one part of the video, you will see a cameo by Sir Peter Jackson who finds the ring. And watch out for Gollum looking for his precious when the flight lights are turned off.
It’s funny to see hobbits, elves and other characters flying to Middle Earth using iPhone, iPad and other gadgets and were asked to switch them off.
It would be wonderful if all airlines could come up with catchy safety instruction videos to educate passengers better. I’ve seen many passengers not focusing at the flight attendant or even the safety video being played.. probably because it’s the same old thing.

By the way, I can’t wait to watch the Hobbit trilogy!
