Fitness First logoAbout 4 years back, I terminated my gym membership in Fitness First at Menara John Hancock (now called Menara Manulife). The reason for terminating my membership is not because I don’t like the gym, in fact I really loved the time spent at Fitness First gyms. I was too busy with software solution development projects that I wasted paying 1 full month to the gym and not being able to go for healthy workouts and classes. I terminated my membership and it took me a long time to decide to join Fitness First gym again, which is in December 2008. I’m back, Fitness First!

Fitness First treadmills and TVI was a member at Fitness First for one full year then. In the beginning I was just randomly doing cardio exercises, using weight lifting machines and joining fitness classes. I used to feel lethargic before joining Fitness First, but after my random exercises I felt better. I felt less tired doing everyday stuffs, I did not feel sleepy during working hours and felt more alert and I slept better despite having a lot of IT project work to do.

Fitness First gym weightsThose random exercises lasted about 3 months. Then I decided to plan my gym exercises. I brought a tiny palm-sized book and a pen. I wrote down a list of weight-lifting exercises broken down into day groups. One day I will do a set of exercises targeting a few body parts. And another day I will do a different set of exercises targeting different body parts. I made it a point to visit Fitness First gym 3 times a week. And for all these exercises, I will gradually increase/decrease weight and repetitions for strength gains. After about 3 to 4 months, the results were obvious, my body weight has increased and it is not because of fat.. but because of muscle! I gained a total of 10kg of muscle. My friends and colleagues have told me that they see the huge difference. I was so happy that finally I have transformed from a skinny person to a non-skinny person. :)

Note: You can only gain bigger muscle if you take protein supplements or eat meat like a lion. So for ladies, don’t worry about lifting weights. You will not gain big muscle like guys do because you don’t have male hormone ‘testosterone’ and you most probably won’t consume protein supplements. Instead you will be more toned up and become stronger!

During my membership with Fitness First, I did not get sick at all for the whole year. In fact I did not fall sick for nearly another 1 year after I terminated my gym membership. I was a person who can easily get sick at least 3 times a year as long as anyone around me is having flu, running nose, sneezing or coughing. I was surprised that the first time in my life, I was not sick for the entire 2 years!

When I joined Fitness First 5 years ago, they were the only gym-chain intensely promoting membership to the mass public. But now there are many other competing gym-chains. I’ve checked and compared Celebrity Fitness, True Fitness, California Fitness and Momentum Fitness. All of them have their own benefits and pricing. Finally I decided to join Fitness First again.   • Steam room and sauna, I usually go to the sauna and then go to steam room. It feels so good to sweat out!
  • Luxurious changing rooms with hot/cold shower with toiletries provided. Safety lockers to keep your stuffs and hot/normal hair dryers are provided.
  • Free DVD and VCD rental. You can borrow any of the 500+ movies and watch it at home. I do this every time! :)
  • Free parking at selected Fitness First branch. Please check before you join.

  • 1-to-1 Personal Training from qualified fitness instructors. Personal Training is charged separately.

Now you know why I came back to Fitness First gym even when there are many other competitive gyms out there.  For the monthly gym fees which is cheaper than my company’s office building monthly car parking fees, joining Fitness First is really worth the money spent. So I’m going to start my plan and start building muscle!
