I have been planning for a ride on Eye On Malaysia since it’s launch in 2007. In that year, I actually went there hoping to hop on the huge ferris wheel ride. Unfortunately, it was on a weekend and there was a huge crowd and a very long queue to Eye On Malaysia’s ticketing counter. I cancelled my plan to ride on Eye On Malaysia ferris wheel and just strolled around enjoying Taman Tasik Titiwangsa (Titiwangsa lake).

Eye On Malaysia was supposed to be removed after 31 December 2007 but it was extended until 31 August 2008 due to popular demand. That gave me more time to make another attempt to ride on Eye On Malaysia.

On 26 August 2008, Tuesday, I went back home after work, got ready and drove straight to Taman Tasik Titiwangsa with my family. The weather was clear, no rain or dark clouds that can cancel my second attempt.

Eye On Malaysia farewell party

We reached Taman Tasik Titiwangsa and found parking easily. There were quite a number of cars but there were still a lot of empty car park lots along the road. I walked towards the Eye On Malaysia and realised that there were not many public people there. There were tents for some kind of party or ‘jamuan’. As I went nearer, I saw the stage and it was actually a farewell party for Eye On Malaysia. 31 August 2008 will be the last day anyone would have the chance to view KL city skyline from on top in Eye On Malaysia. After that, you can only ride on Eye On Malaysia in Melaka from October 2008 onwards.

I walked towards the the ticketing counter and the good thing is I didn’t have to queue up at all. I just went straight to the only counter and got my tickets. I was directed to one of the gondola’s (the cabin where you sit in) by the staffs there. They closed the gondola’s door and there was a bad smell inside, more like wet socks. I knocked the door and requested to change to a different gondola but the staff said that all the gondola’s have the same smell because of the air-conditioning. I said that I can’t sit there and tolerate wet sock like smell for the whole 4 rounds and I need fresh air. He opened a small portion of the window at the top to allow air to come in. Then I felt better.

The highest position on Eye On Malaysia is nothing compared to the view you’ll get from KL Tower but if you’re scared of heights, this may look too high especially when you are surrounded with glass and nothing to hold except for your seat. Lucky for me that the floor is a solid type, as I’ll be scared to death if I were to stand on a piece of see through fibreglass floor!

Guess what.. the ferris wheel was supposed to make 4 rounds but I ended up going for 6 rounds. Maybe they didn’t mind as there was not much crowd. After getting out of the gondola, it was picture snapping session. That is when I realised there was crowd and queue to the ticketing counter. That means we were lucky to have a gondola all for ourselves. A private gondola costs RM100 but we got it without paying that amount. :) Soon I heard music and there was colourful laser show on water. I rushed towards the lakeside and was watching the musical laser show and happily snapping photos.

How does the laser show works? There is a platform in the middle of water in the lake which has a small hut which houses the laser projector. Then there are pumps spraying water in front of the projector. The continuous droplets of water in the air acts as a projector screen. So it looked like movie theater on water! It was so cool with images, videos and music all combined and shown using water droplets as the screen! I waited and watched the whole show again during the second session.
